Mount Vernon—Lisbon & Me: July 6th Storytelling Event

To kick-off Heritage Days festivities, the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council hosted the second annual storytelling event on July 6th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the First Street Community Center.. The evening began with music by the Mississippi String Band. Darren Crow, a professional storyteller in Cedar Rapids served as the coach and Master of Ceremony. Seven story tellers, including the Chief of Police, Doug Shannon; Joe Jennison, Main Street and Marketing Director for the Mount Vernon—Lisbon Community Development Group; Amy White, Director of the Lisbon Public Library and Gabriel Guardado an immigrant from El Salvador shared tales of their connections and experiences in Mount Vernon & Lisbon.
